Arvada, CO Real Estate
With over 115,000 people Arvada is the 7th largest city in Colorado and a suburb of Denver. Named by some locals “West Denver”, and a first-ring suburb, Arvada is close enough to Denver proper to conveniently take advantage of all of the entertainment and amenities that Denver has to offer, but just far enough to retain its small town charm. Residents have a variety of neighborhood options, including charming downtown historic bungalows and cottages, golf and country club areas, suburban neighborhoods with new construction, farm and equestrian estates and plenty of apartment, condo and townhome areas.
Arvada has grown not only in population but in prosperity and is one of the top wealthiest zip codes in Colorado. It is considered part of the Denver MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area) and largely in Jefferson County, with a small portion of it extending into Adams County.
In 2016 the real estate website Trulia named part of Arvada as the best neighborhood in Denver. The ranking was based on ease of living a healthy lifestyle, including quiet streets, access to parks and playgrounds and number and proximity of hospitals and care facilities in the area.
Olde Town Arvada is quickly becoming a destination for residents and non-residents alike. A very pedestrian-friendly design and the Olde Town commuter rail line station at Grandview Avenue consistently bring crowds to this little borough marked by historic buildings and an authenticity that can't be faked or developed. Olde Town Arvada is on the National Register of Historic Places, and savvy entrepreneurs have scooped up spaces that now have some of the best eateries and bars in the west Denver Metro.

History
You’ll see the name Ralston all over Arvada. That’s because Lewis Ralston, a gold prospector from Georgia, came to the area with a wagon train in 1850 and found a bit of gold in a stream off of Clear Creek. He continued on to California in search of more gold but returned 8 years later during the Pikes Peak gold rush with another group of prospectors to settle in the area. Arvada was actually the site of the first gold strike in the state of Colorado.
In the 1870’s, Arvada (then known as Ralston Point) was platted when the railroads were laid through the area. Later the community was named after Hiram Arvada Hoskin (or Haskin), brother-in-law of settler Mary Wadsworth, whose husband Benjamin Wadsworth was the first postmaster of Arvada. Today the Amtrak California Zephyr passes through Arvada westbound each morning and eastbound each evening on one of the most scenic and popular rail routes in the country. By the early 1900’s Arvada was a vibrant agricultural community and was once known as the “Celery Capital of the World”.
The first King Soopers grocery store was in Olde Town Arvada in the 1940’s, owned by it’s namesake Lloyd J. King.
